I think most people can agree they have a busy life and it can be hard to keep up with it all. I am one of those people, married with 3 kids, I have gradually struggled more and more to keep up with all the responsibilities of work and daily life. When I came across some self-help books, particularly one called Atomic Habits I came across some insightful advice which was, to make your life easier to manage you must, customize your daily routines and choose good habits.
Customized your daily routine
Creating a customized plan for your daily routine requires some careful thought and consideration but once applied, it can create a huge change in your life, I know it has for me. One example might be setting phone reminders for things you regularly do and or need help remembering to do on time, for instance, picking up the kids from school, making lunch for the next day or even meal prepping for the week! I created a few but important reminders for myself which have helped a ton. You can get started with small steps and soon enough you’ll start to gain momentum and start seeing the benefits. Getting started can look like taking some time to sit down and instead of scrolling through social media, you start thinking through your daily routine and analyze which portions you can optimize. It can be your morning routine and/or your nightly routine, an example would be instead of always trying to figure out if you shower first and eat breakfast afterwards or vice versa you decide it’s one way only from now on. Another example is, deciding when or where to fill up on gas, instead of worrying about the prices of different gas stations, you decide it will always be the gas station of your choosing no matter what. Making these types of decisions in advance will help make life just a little easier to manage aside from all the other chaos that may fill your day.
Create Good Habits
Along with making life a little easier to manage with pre-planning, there are some things you do now that you may want to change altogether. Creating the best habits for yourself will, in of itself, be the best decision you can make. What that may look like for you is personal and needs some careful consideration, but some great examples are setting a new goal for the month, whether that be in work or personal life, making better diet choices, and exercising more frequently. The best habits over time will produce a life-long positive effect and it all starts with that first step. Some of the most productive and successful people have good habits which encourage growth, especially with the fast-paced world that we live in, there is always room to grow(Investopedia). For myself, I have started to make a habit of putting meetings and other important dates into a digital calendar, and it has helped me a tremendous amount with staying organized. This isn’t an all-inclusive how-to guide to implement new habits into your life but I would encourage taking the time to learn more about this topic and realizing the change it can have in your life. Again we can all agree that life could always be a little simpler, and it can be with these tips, so go out there and give it your best effort and go live a healthier and happier life!
